Build, Code, Create!
Your Lego Robotics Spring Update
Thank You for an Incredible Fall of Building!
Thank you to all our families for trusting us with your young builders this fall! Watching your children’s creativity and joy as they built and coded was truly rewarding. We learned that the best robotics experiences happen when every student gets the individual attention they deserve.
This spring, we’re returning to our smaller, more focused class sizes to ensure each student receives personalized guidance as they explore building and coding. Smaller groups mean more one-on-one support, more time to experiment, and a calmer environment where every student can create confidently. Several schools are already sold out, so register soon to secure your spot!
Hello Lego Robotics Families,
As we look ahead to spring, we’re excited to continue this journey of building and coding with your children. The creativity and enthusiasm they brought to every project was inspiring! This spring brings something special: our new Robotics Lead has been cooking up fun new builds that will introduce students to different mechanisms and coding concepts.
Get Ready for New Builds & Coding Fun!
This spring, students will explore five exciting builds from our first unit. Each project introduces a different way that machines can move and respond, while students practice coding with Lego Spike Essentials. From helicopters that react when you tilt them to dogs that respond to your voice, these builds offer hands-on fun while exploring how things work and how code makes them come alive.
Helicopter
Build a helicopter that responds when you tilt and shake it! Students will explore how sensors can detect movement and practice coding their helicopter to react in different ways.
Police Cruiser
Create a police cruiser with flashing lights and sounds! Students will practice making their code repeat actions and coordinate lights, sounds, and movement all at once.
Train
Build a train and discover how pistons help engines move! Students will experiment with making their train go different speeds and directions, and try controlling it with their voice.
Snake
Make a slithering snake that can “see” colors! Students will explore how color sensors work and code their snake to make different sounds when it sees different colors.
Dog
Build a mechanical dog that listens to your voice! Students will practice voice commands and experiment with different movement patterns, discovering how changing where motors go changes how things move.
Important Update: Spike Prime Usage
Students must demonstrate proficiency with Spike Essentials coding using word blocks before leveling up to Spike Prime.
While some students in the fall viewed Essentials as “basic” or “too simple,” these kits are incredibly powerful tools capable of advanced programming and complex builds. For years, we’ve had 5th graders using Essentials to create amazing robots, design games with multiple inputs, and execute sophisticated coding sequences. This spring, we’re using a level-up system where students complete challenges and assessments on Free Build Challenge days. Once they’ve truly mastered the coding capabilities available in Essentials, they’ll earn their promotion to Prime kits: ensuring they’re ready to tackle even greater challenges!
This does not apply to Spike Prime Classes.
Don’t Miss Out on the Fun!
Registration closes Sunday, January 5th. Secure your child’s spot to begin the week of January 12th.
