Today we’re going to be discussing polymers and doing a quick and easy experiment!

what is a polymer?

A polymer is a large chemical compound that is made up of long chains of molecules! Polymers can be either organic or synthetic. Examples of organic polymers include silk, wool, DNA, and proteins. Some examples of synthetic polymers are nylon, plastic and polyester.

The polymer we are dealing with in today’s experiment is plastic, specifically the plastic that reusable sandwich bags are made of! This type of material is great for holding snacks because the material stretches to the shape of what you put inside the bag! The polymers that make up plastic bags are what allows them to stretch!
