Hello KidzArt Families,
Get ready to embark on a new artistic adventure this spring! Our young artists will explore a menagerie of charming creatures, learning new skills and letting their imaginations soar with each lesson. Here’s what’s coming up:
Week 1: Mr. Bear
Students will explore drawing a cozy stuffy waking from hibernation, learning the art of perspective to create depth and dimension. They’ll master facial expressions and bring their bear to life with oil pastels, complete with pajamas and a special teddy bear friend.
Week 2: Fruit Bat
Drawing upside down takes on new meaning as students create a fruit bat hanging from a tree branch. They’ll practice overlapping patterns and explore the difference between wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet watercolor techniques to bring their nocturnal friend to life.
Week 3: Frogs
Art that leaps off the page! Students will master directional strokes and implied movement with colored pencils, then add a 3D element using pipe cleaners to create tongues that pop out to catch flies. This hands-on project combines drawing skills with creative construction.
Week 4: Butterfly
Working with chalk pastels on blue paper, students will create stunning butterflies using blending and layering techniques. This lesson focuses on color theory and the delicate art of pastel work, with finished pieces sealed with hairspray for lasting beauty.
Week 5: Hedgehog
Students will dive deep into texture exploration, using various brush strokes and tempera paint techniques on canvas to capture the prickly, adorable nature of a hedgehog. This lesson emphasizes how different painting methods create different visual effects.
Week 6: Mouse on a Mushroom
The spring session concludes with a whimsical scene focusing on vibrant color blending and shading. Using art stix, students will create a charming mouse perched on a mushroom, practicing advanced coloring techniques to make their artwork truly pop.
