Learning with Hands-On Activities

For years educators have stressed that students learn better "by doing" - especially in the sciences. Students of all ages learn more science-content and skills when they engage in investigation and discovery using everyday materials and the basic equipment of science.

Chemistry ExperimentHow can this learning take place? Our carefully designed inquiry centered lessons that involve children with hands-on activies which capture children's natural curiosity, stimulate their interest in science and teach them important science topics along with critical thinking skills.

Our unique Science Club program is designed to meet the needs of children in grades K-6. Club Scientific lessons help engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth and physical science concepts. The units are rigorously researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children. The results are lessons that students can enjoy and genuinely learn from. Science was never this much fun!

Two GirlsClub Scientific Science Club provides dozens of science topics including: Rocketry, Chemistry, Paleontology, Forensics, Weather, Flight, Technology and many other disciplines of science. All Club Scientific lessons are designed to help with the development of the following scientific process skills: observing, classifying, comparing, measuring, critical thinking, predicting, hypothesizing, sequencing and experimentation.

Club Scientific believes in parental involvement. In every Club Scientific class, your child will receive a lesson card describing the lesson with some suggestions for extending the learning experience at home. After each five week session, students will receive a science medal to recognize their Scientific achievements.

Each science enrichment UNIT lasts for five weeks. Classes meet once a week for approximately 45-50 minutes. Class size is 8-10 students, per instructor, with the cost of $70.00 per student per Unit.

2007-2008 Course Offerings

Break out the Beakers:
There is no better way to slime, glop, brew and goo through the science of chemical reactions than by experimenting with our crazy concoctions. We provide the world's top ten best secret formulas for kids.

Partners in Crime:
Join us for the growing science of talking bones, (Forensics). Students learn about the link between the criminal and the crime as they solve the case of the missing cookies! Fingerprinting, powder identification and rainbow chromatography are just a few of our forensic explorations. Each graduate of this unit will receive a CSI certificate.

Little Science Chef:
Learn loads of science principles by creating fun, easy to perform cooking projects. Best of all you get to eat the results when the experinent is over. We provide our most delicious "scientific" recipes. Why do onions make you cry? What makes popcorn pop? Help us answer these questions as we spend our afternoon "stirring up things!" Disclaimer: This class is not intended for students with food allergies.

Boy with PlaneIt is Rocket Science:
Become your own astronomy expert. Share in the secrets of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and the Stars within the Milky Way and beyond! Join us in galactic projects that include a solar system model, star finder, glow in the dark Saturn, constellation game and air burst rocket.

Dinosaur's Rock:
Follow us back into time when giant beasts roamed the Earth. Find out how paleontologists discover and preserve dinosaur fossils. Hands-on activities include: Fossil rubbings, erupting volcano, rock cycle collection, and a fossil dig. Take home a real shark tooth necklace!

Weather on the Wild Side:
Students learn about science and the art of weather forecasting by building their own weather equipment from scratch: a Beaufort Scale Spinner, a barometer, a hair hygrometer, and their very own weather station. These mini-meteorologists will also test weather lore by learning to "read" the sky and nature. Can wooly caterpillars and red sails in the sunset really help our weather predictions?
